Dunkin Doughnuts or Crispy Cream

Personally I like Crispy Cream doughnuts better but I'm not sure that they have much of a coffee variety so I tend to lean toward Dunkin for their coffee.. Any opinions?

I've never had Dunkin Doughnuts, so I can't make a comparison. I will say this, though. I think Crispy Cream is very over-rated. Everyone gets all psyched about them, but I was very disappointed. They are expensive, and you get these little tiny doughnuts. I can think of places that you pay far less, and get much bigger doughnuts. Also, Crispy Creams are pretty much only good when they are warm. I don't think they taste good cold. And they are almost too sweet. Given that I have a sweet tooth, that says a lot.

Well.. as much as I like them, I would have to agree that they are a bit too sweet. Usually one at a time is enough for me or I get sick.

Crispy Cream is so much better when it comes to doughnuts but as far as the breakfast menu and coffee, Dunkin Doughnuts have more variety. I like their eggs with cheese and bacon wrap. They have those in mini wraps. And their ice mocha is so much better than McDonalds.

All them donut places serve cop and doper chow ... gotta love the irony on that one. I've gotta try the Voodoo Donuts out here which is new but it's weird: who goes to donut shops anymore 'cept the cops and the midnight munchies crowd? Gues the latter probably hit up Taco Bell, what with Fourth Meal and that.

Dunkin' Doughnuts, definitely.

What's wrong with going to a doughnut place? I've gone to Dunkin' Doughnuts many times but have only gone to Crispy Cream maybe once or twice. But that was a long time ago, so it wouldn't be fair to make a comparison. Still, from what I remember, the Crispy Creams were a bit fresher. But Dunkin' Doughnuts does have good coffee.

For me its definitly dunkin. I don't really get them much anymore because they aren't any in San Diego.

dude I love crispy cream's doughnuts way better than duncan, but I do have to agree with everyone here that duncan doughnut's coffee is absolutely awesome and amazing. It still doesn't beat starbucks though, even if starbucks is super expensive.

we have a local bakery called rollins that beats the pants off either of the big boys. there also is a place here called the fractured prune that makes wonderful but pricey donuts. you can invent your own flavors and they'll make them for you.

as for the big two, definitely dunkin. america runs on them and so do I. their crullers and maple ones are to die for. i also love their coffee and iced drinks.

as for krispy kreme, yuck. my son says they are air filled sugar puffs. there isn't anything to them. they never have impressed me.

hey leo guardian, get a grip and find a life. anyone with any discernible class visits donut shops. fat and sugar are the two american favorite food groups right?

Come to think of it, Hey leo, what would you do in my neighborhood? we have a dunkin donuts mixed up with a baskin robins. would your piss elegant self be able to walk through the dreaded donuts to get to the ice cream? or do you even deign to dine on such plebian fair as rocky road and chocolate mousse royale?

I prefer Krispy Kreme. Used to eat 4 or 5 at a time, with a glass of milk of O.J. That was my breakfast on those days. The glazed are really good, but my recent favorites were the powered sugar and cinnamon. My all-time favorite was coconut.

I never said *I* wouldn't go to donut shops, in fact if / when I can I pass by one more than occasionally.
However, at least out here, they've just decreased in such popularity and whether we're right or wrong, we tend to blame the hipsters for it, who are everything you applied to me in the last post. I could be their father, and no I'm no elegant self.
It's been said the best time to hit the donut shop is early morning as they have just made them. However, some who hit 'em up at noon say there's a second round ... in either case if you get them warm, they're generally good from about anywhere. The only terrible donut I had was at a train station in Japan, which I threw away after two bites. Solid oil and dough, not much flavor, not like any donut you've ever had.

And another question: Out here on the west coast, and I assume many other place, maple bars are common, even in the grocery deli. However, when I was in Florida, I could rarely find them. Duncan Donuts had them, of course, but not often elsewhere.

leo!!! Another reason to locate to the north west. Maple bars are never in any stores here in maryland. in fact, I've never even seen them in dunkin. the only time i get them is if i make them, which honestly isn't that often because to be perfect they must contain nuts which no one but me in my family will eat. When i was in oregon i had some wonderful donuts but i can't remember from whence the came.
Sorry for calling you an elegant self. You just cam across that way in your message. Since i live in a red neck area, i am very sensitive. probably i am too much so.

Believe it or not, the best donuts we have around here are from a grocery store called shoppers food warehouse. Don't laugh. They have their own in store bakery. i go in ther every sunday morning right as they are being made. the smell alone will make you extremely happy. they are bigger than dunkin and better but no one will believe me that a pastry from that kind of venue is good so i didn't bother to mention them.

anyway, here is a funny story about pretencious people. when my kids were littel i won a free overnight in a hotel that had pretentions of grandure. you got this wonderful room a great dinner and a breakfast so we left the kids with a sitter and took off. . i invited some friends to have the breakfast with us . they couldn't get a sitter until late in the morning. so we decided to call up room service for tea and coffee. being frugal, i had packed some scones and turnovers from shoppers in my bag. by the time the order had arrived, i had them all out on plates i had also brought. the waiter asked me if they came from a very famous bakery in dc that provides stuff to the white house. I said that i appreciated the compliment as would the bakers at shoppers. he was totally amazed.

Ah man, those store-bought pastries are seriously underrated. And, by the way, so is the coffee now. The days of getting a really good cup of joe only from Starbucks or a coffee shop are seriously long gone. I haven't bought premium coffee from the Internet or a premium place in years, because I can now buy decent beans at half the price. Still do like my French press, though.
If you really wanta make fun of hipsters look up Portlandia on Youtube, prepare to laugh your ass off.
I understand the redneck sensitivity thing, used to live in Florida after all and if you ground your own coffee around some people you were thought a snob.

So when my neighbor moved next door out here, and he's more the country / trucker type, and we were just talking over the fence, I was digging out stumps, we stopped for beers, and I was grateful he not only didn't give me a hard time for drinking micros, but took a 'fancy' cigar I offered (some really good ones cost three bucks by the way but they aren't Swishers!)
I think some people of the redneck persuasion forget the sensitivity thing works both ways. Speaking as one with both extremes in my family - a sister who's too sophisticated for words, some some others the other way. I'm more in the middle to be honest.

i don't need to watch the u tube thing. i have my brother whom i'm sure it must have been based on. ouch. sorry. sometimes I should only think these things. I have never used a french press. I am affraid to buy one as I haven't ever done it and don't know if the extra work is worth the taste difference. I just bought some beans from the made in oregon store but I forget where they originally haled from.

Probably roasted at Stumptown or something. Good stuff that.

Neither. Home-made pastries and local shops for the win.
